System Design Engineer

Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated System Design Engineer to join our team in the Product Development Group at Ore Energy.
 
In this role, you will:
  • Take role on designing and developing innovative battery systems and components, focusing on efficiency, performance, and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate new technologies into product designs, ensuring scalability and manufacturability.
  • Lead projects from conception through to completion, including patent drafting and prototype testing.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, research, and technologies to drive continuous improvement and innovation within the company.
  • Take active role in the conceptualization, design, and optimization of next-generation battery systems, focusing on improving energy density, reducing charging times, and enhancing safety features.
  • Perform detailed simulations and modeling of electrochemical processes to predict system performance under various conditions, leveraging computational tools 
  • Engage in materials characterization and selection, particularly focusing on sustainable and high-performance materials for electrodes, electrolytes, and separators.
  • Spearhead the development of testing protocols for new battery technologies, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive innovation by identifying opportunities for technology integration, including IoT connectivity for smart monitoring and management of battery systems.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to streamline the production process, focusing on cost reduction, quality improvement, and scalability.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and represent the company at industry conferences, seminars, and workshops to showcase our technological advancements and establish thought leadership.
  • Work closely with the business development team to understand market needs, customer requirements, and competitive landscape, informing the strategic direction of technology development.
  • Actively contribute to the company's intellectual property portfolio by identifying patentable inventions and assisting with the patent application process.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and interns, fostering a culture of innovation, learning, and professional growth.
Your profile
  • Minimum 2 years of industry experience in process design
  • Minimum master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD)
  • Strong understanding of component design for manufacturing and assembly, particularly for plastic components
  • Knowledge of fabrication and prototyping techniques
  • Comfortable working in a shop or lab environment
  • Familiarity with validation testing
  • Experience with fluid handling systems is a plus
  • Previous experience in flow batteries, electrolyzers, fuel cells or similar technologies is preferred
